As New Zealand’s largest port, the Port of Tauranga is always looking for ways to improve internal business efficiency. When management identified the handling of employee and contractor timesheets as an ‘opportunity for improvement’, the port’s IT team engaged Cucumber to create a purpose-built timesheet application.
The objective was to allow staff to input time data into a web based tool that would provide a direct data feed into the port’s payroll system. Cucumber worked closely with the Port of Tauranga IT team to develop and test the application. The process included developing a prototype that provided the Port of Tauranga team with a clickable visual representation of the end product.
A trial release resulted in increased productivity and better management of internal data and documentation, including an increase in accuracy of time data. Based on the success of this trial, the application was deployed throughout the organisation. Ultimately, the timesheet application has led to a simplified process for all employees, including payroll staff. The port has declared the project to be an all-round winner.
