bidr
Scalable Auction System
The Brief
bidr® needs a scalable action system, that is flexible to meet market needs and support its strong growth in the market
THE CHALLENGE
bidr® leads online livestock trading in New Zealand, allowing customers to browse and purchase livestock from the comfort of their home, whether it’s through 100% online auctions means it is imperative that the technology works everytime and provides a seamless '“just like being there” experience for online participants - buyers and viewers.
With market demand growing, bidr® needed to ensure that its auction system software platform and hosting infrastructure would cope with the expected market growth across a range of action formats.
OUR APPROACH
Coming on board as bidr’s® IT vendor, Cucumber reviewed the exisiting architecture and tech ology and recommended optimisation of the bidr® system architecture using a flexible cloud-based architecture with modern technology thats scalable, configurable and easier to maintain.
Cucumber completed a detailed technical analysis and architecture planning exercise alongside the bidr® team before undertaking the optimisation work.
Taking a customer-centric agile approach, on-going design and development of new features and functionality is continually being delivered based on customer feedback and business drivers.
THE SOLUTION
The bidr® system, hosted on cloud-based Amazon Web Services (AWS), is scalable, robust and built to cope with increased market demand. Taking a microservices approach, we utilised leading technologies such as .NET, Angular, Docker and Kubernetes to build the livestock auction system.
Its great news for customers too, the system is mobile friendly, fast, intuitive and easy to use.
THE OUTCOME
bidr’s® broadened action offering and partnership with a network of livestock agencies has resulted in a 200% increase in actions delivered in just 12 months and increased user and vendor satisfaction. Architected as a cloud native application the system is able to scale for future growth expectations while being easier to support and maintain.
